Their is little chance of the chain snapping, with just stretch more and more and this will put the ignition timing out more. Driveability will reduce the longer you use it in this condition. Any good garage will be able to do the job there is no special tools involved, and the engine does not have to be removed, gearbox will have to be seperated from engine to get the sump off, and removing the sum itself is a bit tricky, just takes a fair amount of persuasion.

When it looses power - what is the revcounter doing? Does it increase in revs quicker than the car is gaining speed. If so then the clutch is slipping. The car actually passed its MOT last week as well, needing only a headlight bulb, so that didn't flag up any problems.
The MOT is not a service and diagnostic, its an annual safety check. The only check they carry out on the engine is the emisions and if they are within the required parameters its passes.
There are some out there who believe quite incorrectly that the annual MOT is the only maintenance a car needs. Getting to the plugs on these cars is a total pain requires removal of the airbox and parts of the inatke and for that reason many never got a plug change.Nissan Service - AC not cooling
That would be one area I would check but beware, if the plugs have been in for a considerable time they can be virtually impossible to remove. An overnight soak round the bottom of the plugs with a penetrating oil can help but do not force them. Before refitting put some copperslip on the threads, it helps prevent them siezing. Just an update to this thread, I still havent had it to a mechanic as I dont have the spare money right now but I did drive it on a short journey yesterday, just local roads between mph and the problem of losing power started to happen, this hasnt happened before on short journeys so whatever it is it is definately getting worse.
When I pulled back up on my drive the exhaust was making a noise when I revved it up, not really bad but it was noticeable, could it be the exhaust is what is actually causing my loss of power probelm please? My Nissan Micra started having problems a few months ago. It's been into the garage a few times, and has been fully serviced, and the problem still persists.
Basically it 'kangaroos' sometimes, and loses power for a few seconds, possibly as if not enough fuel is getting through. I have had the petrol pump replaced and the battery and belt for the alternator. Mr brother suggested putting in some 'Redex' as he thought it may be 'sticky valves' with it being unleaded fuel. This seemed to help a little, and I put some Redex in each tankfull now. The kangarooing and loss of power happen on a completely random basis, not in any specific circumstances.
It can be fine for days, then have a few days of playing up. It does it more on long journeys. The problem sometimes seems to be associated with changing demand on the accelerator, eg it can play up after driving along smoothly for a while and then being stuck in a traffic queue, or after going round a sharp bend or over a humpy bridge it then can play up when setting off onto a smoother stretch of road.
Nissan Micra: Heater Not Working Diagnosis
But as I said, this is all very random, it doesn't play up every time in those situations. Also sometimes the car stalls just after starting up in the morning it starts fine or can stall sometimes if waiting in traffic for a few minutes. Please help as my garage seem at a loss and I can't afford endless trips to the garage on the off-chance they can find what's wrong. Thank you! What year is it?
How much mileage? Has the fuel filter been replaced? Sounds like a misfire to me but any number of things could be causing it. I would start by removing the distributor cap if present and check inside it and the arm for signs of any kind of marks, burning, or irregularities inside it. Check the arm firmly stays in place and does not have too much play.
Probably worth renewing all the leads, the distributor cap and rotor arm make sure the new leads are in the same position as the old ones, do one at a time to see if that helps. Also consider if yours has a timing chain that this may be the cause of timing being out and getting the chain replaced may cure the problem. As for stalling while waiting, I would give the throttle body a good clean with carb cleaner.Until Nissan began selling badge engineered superminis from other Japanese manufacturers, the March was Nissan's smallest vehicle, and was not renamed and sold at other Japanese Nissan dealership networks.
It was intended to replace the Nissan Cherry as the company's competitor in the supermini sector, as the Cherry model sold in Europe had progressively become larger with each successive generation. In Japan, it was exclusive to Nissan Cherry store locations, as the Japanese market Cherry was renamed March, benefiting from engineering contributions from Nissan's acquisition of the Prince Motor Companywho originally developed the outgoing Cherry.
The bodystyle was originally designed for Fiat as a replacement for the Fiatbut Fiat then adopted the Giugiaro -styled Uno instead. The Datsun badges had disappeared completely by the end of Both the automatic and five-speed manual gearboxes were unusual in a supermini at this time.
It was one of several important small cars to be launched onto the European market during Also launched that year were the Fiat UnoPeugeotVauxhall Nova a Britain-only model which had been launched across Europe the previous year as the Opel Corsa and the second generation of the Ford Fiesta. It sold well in Britain, being launched there in June and peaking at more than 50, sales for the year inand was one of the most popular imported cars of its era.
The model was revised in Juneidentifiable by the slightly larger rear lamp clusters. This version was never sold in Europe, where the only engines ever available were the 1. The 1. Another facelift came in Marchwhich consisted of some minor upgrades such as deeper bumpers, a new front grille, minor interior details, and headlight changes.
This was also when the five-door hatchback version was introduced in Europe, shortly before Ford launched the third-generation Fiesta which also offered a 5-door model for the first time. The Micra's chassis spawned a number of variations.
The Be-1 BK10launched at the Tokyo Motor Show in but not sold untilwas a limited edition model with a more rounded bodyshape, and only 10, were sold. Because demand for the Figaro exceeded the 20, vehicles built, Nissan sold the car by lottery: winners could place orders for the car.
Despite being a JDM-only model, the Figaro is one of the most imported models of the K10 derivatives; its popularity among numerous celebrity owners helped it earn cult status. The K10 ceased production on 21 Decemberalthough its replacement had gone into production some months earlier.
During its lifetime, the Micra gained a good reputation for reliability and economy. Init topped the small car class in a reliability survey of four to six-year-old cars undertaken by the German Automobile Association ADACwith 7. In the longer term, the Micra would also go on to achieve a much higher survival rate than many of its competitors. The Sentra Classics were built in Mexico.
The European market Super S trim became available along with the second facelift in Sporty Super S included a factory bodykit, racing seats and a tachometer and was only available in black, gray, white and red.
Despite its appearance it had the same MA12 engine as the standard K10 Micra, although catalytic converters were a non-deletable feature on the car making them slightly less powerful than the non-cat cars.
This car came with either a 3-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox with viscous limited slip differential, as well as options such as air conditioning and electric mirrors.
The Micra Super Turbo still holds the crown for the fastest production Micra in Nissan's history, with factory performance figures of 7. It was launched in Japan on Januaryand released in Europe in the fourth quarter of the year. It was powered by brand new all-aluminium 1.
CVT automatic transmission and Power steering was an option on some models, and the equipment list included safety features not usually available in this market segment: a toughened safety-cage and side-impact door beams were standard and pre-tensioning seat-belts and a driver's air-bag were optional.
Having won several awards, Nissan manufactured the V3 Award edition. After receiving minor changes inthe Micra received a facelift insix years after its launch. However, much like the Nissan Figaro, some have been imported into the UK unofficially. There was also an estate version called the March Box WK11which was unveiled on Novemberwith a double folding rear seat, along with an automatic transmission four-wheel drive model. In latea facelift version was introduced, and was built from late until early Nissan is a well-respected Japanese car manufacturer.
They have had some hits with big cars like the Skyline as well as smaller city faring vehicles like the Nissan Micra. With over three decades of history under its wheels, this is one car that is both economical to run and simple to drive. If you are thinking of purchasing a second-hand Nissan Micra, then what are the potential faults? In this article, we explore some of the widely reported issues. Inspect the brakes on any potential purchase.
If there is fluid leaking from the callipers or an abnormal sound coming from the front of the car on braking, then the most likely cause is down to seized callipers, which will require replacing. Also, be on the look-out for strange sensations whilst out on the road. Another common issue with this small Nissan city run-around is with the steering. Does the car shake from side to side on a test drive? Is there a generally shaky feeling coming from the steering wheel when you accelerate?
If this is the case then you are probably looking at worn constant velocity joints in the wheel, which can be quite expensive to fix. The engine on the Nissan Micra needs to be regularly pushed to its upper limits of performance out on the open road.
If the vehicle does not receive sufficient anti-freeze then the head gasket can blow when out on the road. Danger signs include a lack of performance, rough idling and slow response from the accelerator. There are several problems with the electrical system in the Micra. Glitches with the immobiliser, software and keyless entry system can cause the battery to drain prematurely.
There are very few obvious signs of this issue, which will require an overhaul of the electrical systems, so question the owner and find out if they have found the car to suffer difficulties with charging and starting. Certain Nissan diesel engines on the Micra are known to have problematic turboswhich can blow up.
If the turbo has been replaced check that the exhaust gas recycling valve, which is often the culprit, has also been replaced on the vehicle by reviewing the service history.
